Opinions about SmoothSec distro containing Snort

Dear, I'm looking for an IPS open sopurce distribution that contains Snort.

SecurityOnion acts as an IDS, and SmoothSec acts as IDS/IPS as I can read.

My short questions are:

1) Do you know about SmoothSec, is it good for IPS mode ???

2) Can I implement and IPS with just two network interfaces (one for
monitoring and the other for monitoring and management) ???
