Incremental latency when ping via Snort inline

Hello all, I've encountered a problem with Snort inline mode. When I ping another host through Snort, the RTT is higher as the sequence number grew, and each result has significant difference between the range of RTT. (See below) # ping 10.255.0.2 PING 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=435 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=436 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=437 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=438 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=439 ms ^C --- 10.255.0.2 ping statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% packet loss, time 4773ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 435.824/437.480/439.400/1.371 ms # ping 10.255.0.2 PING 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=833 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=834 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=835 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=836 ms ^C --- 10.255.0.2 ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 3972ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 833.631/835.250/836.810/1.343 ms # ping 10.255.0.2 PING 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=337 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=338 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=339 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.0.2: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=340 ms ^C --- 10.255.0.2 ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 3510ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 337.422/338.827/340.346/1.241 ms Similar result in traceroute: # traceroute 10.255.0.2 traceroute to 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 122.425 ms 122.420 ms 122.408 ms # traceroute 10.255.0.2 traceroute to 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 910.358 ms 910.353 ms 910.349 ms # traceroute 10.255.0.2 traceroute to 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 91.301 ms 91.301 ms 91.282 ms # traceroute 10.255.0.2 traceroute to 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 10.255.0.2 (10.255.0.2) 879.371 ms 879.338 ms 879.349 ms It seems that Snort has some kind of cache or queuing mechanism? I've tried to disable most of VRT rules but still can't figure out why. Does anyone know what happened? Or any suggestion on tool for estimating latency other than ping/traceroute? I use Snort 2.9.5.5 with VRT rule 2013/10/1 snapshot, PF_RING DAQ (5.6.1, non-DNA, transparent=0), total 16 Snort processes. Setup information is shown below.
