Close but no taco...gotta add the -c:

 

snort -de -l log -c /home/priyal/internship/snort-2.9.4.6/etc/snort.conf

I run this command to detect intrusions:
snort -de -l log /home/priyal/internship/snort-2.9.4.6/etc/snort.conf

but I am getting this error:

Running in packet logging mode

Initializing Output Plugins!
Snort BPF option: /home/priyal/internship/snort-2.9.4.6/etc/snort.conf
Log directory = log
pcap DAQ configured to passive.
The DAQ version does not support reload.
Acquiring network traffic from "eth0".
ERROR: Can't set DAQ BPF filter to
'/home/priyal/internship/snort-2.9.4.6/etc/snort.conf'
(pcap_daq_set_filter: pcap_compile: syntax error)!
Fatal Error, Quitting..
