Best practices dealing with alerts

Hello all,

I'm not a security expert, but I have a snort deployment in passive mode that generates different type of alerts.

I wanted to get your advice how to deal with this alerts, what are real attacks, what are just noise ?
is there a best practice document somewhere ? 
Can snort commercial support can help in defining the security level ?
