Make sure http_inspect is set to inspect_gzip, see http://www.snort.org/vrt/snort-conf-configurations/ specifically the preprocessor http_inspect_server section You write your sig to match the ascii decompressed data and Snort should automatically gunzip it for clients that send Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate.
