snort developement

I want to develop a NIDS based on snort but in high rates and adding
protocol anomaly detection.
is it beter to use from snortsp or snort2.9?
i think that snortsp is now active really and it may be not stabled in
early years
is detection engine on snortsp compatible by snort 2.9?
our project is really active and i have many developers and work on it now
