Error running snort

I compiled snort from source following the documentation for Ubuntu 10.04.
When I try to run snort I get the following error.

  Loading dynamic detection library
/usr/local/snort/lib/snort_dynamicrules/smtp.so... ERROR: Failed to load
/usr/local/snort/lib/snort_dynamicrules/smtp.so:
/usr/local/snort/lib/snort_dynamicrules/smtp.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
Fatal Error, Quitting..


How do I fix this?
