I did some testing with the '--enable-ipv6' rpms last night and it appears that most of the 'var' statements in snort's default config file were replaced by 'ipvar' statements. I guess it 'just worked' because the default config file in the rpm was automagically adapted when I compiled snort with '--enable-ipv6' but I surely don't want to break everyone else's config files if they need to be edited (as in 's/^var/ipvar/'). So unless the users can leave their config files as they were with the older rpms, it's a no-go to enable ipv6 by default in these rpms. Any ideas?
