snort virtualization

We have been migrating our physical servers to a virtual environment
using VMWare ESX Server 3.  I was wondering if it would be possible in
VMWare to create a virtual Snort server and then have it monitor a
physical port on our 6509 which is configured to mirror the traffic of a
switch port(s) or VLANs.
