Unfortunately the "point-and-click" mentality (no pun intended) may be
the problem. Here is my advice (not because I have/would ever used
snort in windows - but because I do not llike GUI for such tools):
- try running snort from the COMMAND LINE - any errors in the
configuration of snort, itself, would be revealed there;
- only AFTER having cleaned up the above, and having a fully
fucntional snort "CLI", move to <SomeGUI>center (or whatever), and
make absolutely suure its configuration matches the command line
parameters you found functional. I have a feeling (I apologize if I am
totally off - I do not use windows for this) that you may have PATH
issue, at the least ...

Are there simple step-by-step guides for using Snort via Windows (XP)? My
*nix knowledge is limited (working on that slowly), but I would still like
to be able to get very familiar with Snort and a graphical interface like
IDSCenter. A guide that someone who has used it can recommend would be
great. Thanks in advance!

I am new to snort. I am trying to configure it to run
on an XP workstation using IDScenter
1.1.

I get no errors in General > Overview when I apply.
If I click on Start Snort, I get an error in the
configuration which is that the starting snort service
failed
 Any help appreciated
