Spyware rules for Snort

...I see there aren't any. This topic was talked about last Oct, but no-one has done anything since? As other catagories such as P2P are covered, shouldn't spyware be added? Maybe a different name (to cover our legal a**ses) such as "monitorware.rules" would be better - but the intent is the same: some networks want to know if their machines have software installed on them that sends information about surfing habits/etc out to other companies. If no-one is currently doing this, I'll volunteer to bring out an initial list. Maybe the www.bleedingsnort.org rules could be a starting point, and they could merge back into the "official" ruleset if they prove useful? -- Cheers Jason Haar Information Security Manager, Trimble Navigation Ltd.
