And cheers back atcha. Here's what I mean: 
(from mysql config.log):

Invocation command line was

  $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql 
--with-unix-socket-path=/var/lib/mysql
/mysql.sock

Later, at the prompt:

[root@aztec cwf]# updatedb
[root@aztec cwf]# slocate mysql.sock
[root@aztec cwf]#

I note I chose that (mysql.sock) path because that's where snort said it was 
looking and I haven't yet figured out what exactly is telling it to look 
there...
