Hi John Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I tried that option already and it didn't work. I have found an article saying that this error comes from using a Windows made file on a Linux machine. This is what I did. I copied the file in Windows from Internet and then copied it to Linux. Windows apparently puts extra carriage returns that you can't see. The utility dos2unix changes the file so it can be used by Linux. The file worked fine after that. Hi Everybody I am trying to configure three instances of Snort. I have three files snort_border, snort_lan, snort_dmz in /etc/init.d/. I get an error ":bad interpreter: No such file or directory" if I try to start, stop or
restart.
The instances woudn't start during the startup of the machine. The error
in
/var/log/messages is the same for every instance.
For giggles, try editing /etc/rc.d/init.d/snort_[whatever] to read: #!/bin/sh <------ # $Id: S99snort,v 1.1 2001/12/18 22:14:37 cazz Exp $ # /etc/init.d/snort : start or stop the SNORT Intrusion Database System <snip. rather than: #!/bin/bash <------ # $Id: S99snort,v 1.1 2001/12/18 22:14:37 cazz Exp $ # /etc/init.d/snort : start or stop the SNORT Intrusion Database System <snip>
The permissions on the thre files in /etc/init.d/ are -rwxr -xr -x owned
by
root. Could you please look into the file and help me.
