I'm a little confused when I start the service it says ok but once I
checked
the status it says other wise. Adding the proper user account corrected
the
orginal issue but now it looks like I have a problem with my snort
service.
I currently have this running on a Redhat 8.0 box using Snort 2.0 Acid
and Webmin as
Gui. Thanks for your help Nick

Starting snort: [ OK ]
[root@d1 root]# ./snortd status
snort dead but subsys locked
[root@d1 root]# ps auxww | grep snort
root 1396 0.0 0.1 3276 628 pts/1 S 18:15 0:00 grep
snort

Without seeing the script that you have written or are using to launch
snort in this case, the best bet would be to check why it is trying to
use a user named "snort" and whether or not you have appropriate
users/groups included in your /etc/passwd.

Can you provide version, OS, configuration info, and what you've done so
far, etc.... that would be a help in trying to help you.

Good luck,

-Chris
