Creating ACID tables in MySQL database

I'm trying to create Snort on win2000.
The following statement results in an error. 

> mysql -u root snort c:\applications\snort\contrib\create_mysql

error message is:      Unknown command '\a'.

Can anyone help me out with this?  

I'm using the Snort Installation Manual that I downloaded from Silicon
Defense entitled "Snort, MySQL, ACID and IIS. The manual is dated April 18,
2003
