Erek, et al:

Looking at his syntax for eth0_ADDRESS, HOME_NET, and EXTERNAL_NET,
and wondering:

1) what it's intended to do;

2) will it work?

I have tried all the methods on the user list. None of them works for
my snort. I installed snort1.9.0 on redhat-linux 8.0. Any idea about it?

# Step #1: Set the network variables:
#
# You must change the following variables to reflect
# your local network. The variable is currently
# setup for an RFC 1918 address space.

var eth0_ADDRESS localhost.localdomain
var HOME_NET $eth0_ADDRESS

var EXTERNAL_NET $HOME_NET

Is this not using host names rather than an IP address?

If localhost.localdomain _is_ translated to 127.0.0.1, what effect does
that have on the rest...
