Maybe if you install on the sensor MySQL-client* and MySQL-devel* would be
enough to compile it --with-mysql

Your install problem is one that I ran into also.  In order for Snort to
compile in the libraries needed for MySQL it needs to have a full copy
installed on your box.  You will need to install MySQL and try your install
again.  You don't need to actually use the database on your sensor box,
just
have the program and library files available.

For your remote connection problem, modify your config file and put the
MySQL username and passeord into the srting for the database connect.  I
think that this will solve your problem.  (hint: -usnortuser -psnortpass)

hi

i have my 1st sensor and mysql database on 1 machine,
i tried installing second snort sensor on another
machine with mysql option
./configure --with-mysql

but it stops after sometime saying that mysql not
found on the machine. Now how to go about this,
because i want this sensor to log in my remote mysql
server.

also, I'm facing some strange problem with mysql.
I'm not able to login to my mysql server through
remote machine. it gives an error 2013 query timeout
and connection disconnected.

off topic but would be of great help. if some one can
help me getaround this mysql remote login proble.
i'm using mysql-3.23.54a-4 latest rpm from redhat site
on redhat8.0
