Mysql remote logging

I get this:
C:\mysql\bin>mysql -usnort -p -hXXX.XXX.XXX.XXX snort
Enter password: *********
ERROR 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query

When I try to connect from my win 2k machine to the Redhat 8.0 running
MySql.
