Snort is not a patch to kernel.
and if there is a problem running LIDS Linux Intrusion Detection System along with it?
Of course it will require the proper configuration to allow snort to have access to the required resources. I have never tried but I can't see no problem to use both of them together. Though, I would not configure the portscanner detector in LIDS.
