help needed : unable to sniff on the input interface of linux router

I am using LRP-oxygen as  linux router.

eth0 is my input interface and the packets are routed out through
eth1- output interface.

When I run snort on eth1, it works fine.
But when I run snort on eth0, the system just hangs giving a
kernel panic. It gives messages like 'kernel panic : sput error..
It tries to sync something and hangs.
