Most likely, there is a /etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd.rpmnew that needs to replace /etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd Although you aren't giving very much information to go on. Please give a detailed list of what command you are trying to run when you try to start snort and a listing of rpm -qi snort and rpm -ql snort
