Linux and packet loss

I've got snort 1.7 running on a Linux 2.2.19 (Debian) system. The code red worm is starting to get going now, and I've noticed an oddity. I've got one alert for .ida attempt in my snort log, but I've got 6 attempts (at two minute intervals) in my web server log. So snort has missed 5 attempts. Now the internet connection is only a 128K line. Snort is logging all traffic (in TCPdump mode). Is there any way I can figure out how snort has missed these packets? I know that pcap stats do not work on Linux, so I've got no way of verifying that dropped packets are to blame. Any other ideas? **************************************************************************************** This message and any attachments are confidential to the ordinary user of the e-mail address to which it was addressed and may also be privileged.
