snort stops after a while

hi,

i've been lurking the list for the last few days but i didn't found any message
regarding my problem, so i try to post this.

I installed snort v 18.8 (build 43) on redhat 7.1
i have my /etc/rc.d/init.d/snortd started on boot, but unfortunately it stops runnig after 
some (variable length) time. I have no core dump file.

I also tried  tcpdump -r 0727 () 1730-snort log 
but i receive a message like this:

tcpdump: pcap_loop: bogus savefile header

What does it mean, am i missing something??

Can anyone help?
