I have run Snort for a little while now, and would like to begin some side-by-side comparisons with other NIDS. I am looking to test usability, reliability and performance, primarily. I imagine the latter of the two criteria will vary significantly depending upon the number and types of rules used, and O/S Snort is implemented upon. Which leads to my question..

I wanted to know if any of you had a preference as to running Snort on Free or Open BSD. Which do you think will be more reliable? Which will perform better? Also, regardless of the OS implemented, I plan on recompiling the kernel, and performing other optimizations. If any of you have any specific suggestions regarding this, please feel free to interject.
Word-of-mouth has it :o) that OpenBSD is more secure. But YMMV. -- Florin Andrei "Our mail system is MS Exchange-Me-For-A-Real-Mailer-Please" - an unhappy sysadmin _______________________________________________ Snort-users mailing list Snort-users () lists sourceforge net Go to this URL to change user options or unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/snort-users Snort-users list archive: http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=snort-users
