My snort

also dies from time to time (once, twice a day). My configuration is SuSE 7.1 
and enough disk space and CPU capacity.

So I am controlling the operation of snort with the following statement in 
crontab.

*/10 * * * * /sbin/startproc /usr/local/bin/snort -i eth1 -D -c 
/etc/snort/snort.conf

OK, I know it is not elegant, but it works.
