Problems with snort and syslogD

Well I've installed snort latest version 1.1.8 I think or something and downloaded the latest rules for it from the 
snort web site... did everything perfect. Now I haev the syslog doing local1.* /dev/ttyv3 yet nothing comes to the 
screen so I checkd the logs for snort and sure enough it's logging. So as you can see I'm tearing my hair out here... 
PLEASE HELP!!!
