a couple of brief corrections and/or additions:
the judge is "Lacy Thornburg" not "Thornburgh" as AP reports. useful if
you want to see his other cases and upcoming sentences etc.
Brian Salcedo is not a first time offender. at 17 he cracked arbornet and
the university of maryland and became the first to be arrested in michigan
for cracking.

One of three Michigan men who hacked into the national computer system
of Lowe's hardware stores and tried to steal customers' credit card
information was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in federal prison.

The government said it is the longest prison term ever handed down in a
computer crime case in the United States.

they're wrong. it may tie the longest, but it isn't the longest.

Jeremy Jaynes, aka Gavin Stubberfield, was sentenced to 9 yrs for computer
fraud in relation to his spam activities.
