Previous Politech message: "In Cincinnati, residents watch 'crime cams' for suspicious activity" http://www.politechbot.com/p-04891.htmlIt looks like Sean is claiming the Cincinatti Enquirer made an error in the article I forwarded (or one of their interviewees did, it's hard to tell). Glad to help clear things up.

You have an error in you reproducing of this story. Our system does not cost $24,000 per camera. Please read the article and make the correction, the $24,000 camera it the one the city had up previously. Our system is a fraction of the cost, and is a far superior system. Citizens Monitor Web Crime Cams http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2003/06/17/loc_wwwloc1bcyber17.html Citizens on patrol has gone digital in Cincinnati with civilians watching wireless "crime cams" for suspicious activity to report to police, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. At CityWatcher.com, members of neighborhood anti-crime efforts can remotely control webcams pointed at crime-prone areas. The company that sells the camera and the service grew from the efforts of two Cincinnati residents to stop vandalism and other problems at properties around the city one of the men owns. The cameras, which tile, pan and zoom and have night color vision, cost more than $24,000 each. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- Declan McCullagh's politics and technology mailing list You may redistribute this message freely if you include this notice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to Politech: http://www.politechbot.com/info/subscribe.html This message is archived at http://www.politechbot.com/ Declan McCullagh's photographs are at http://www.mccullagh.org/ Like Politech?
