ATLA represents what's known as the "plaintiffs' bar," and its
members aren't going to get any new business from increased criminal IP
enforcement. What's going on here is simpler: The Congresscritters in
question are members of the House and Senate Judiciary committees. That
means they get a lot of money from the copyright-owner lobby (b/c
Judiciary writes copyright laws), and lots of money from ATLA (b/c
Judiciary does other, different things that ATLA cares about, including
writing tort-reform laws).

According to the Trial Lawyers' website, www.atla.org, the organization is
involved in civil, as opposed to criminal, justice. Its donations are
probably there to oppose tort reform, arbitration, and other attacks on the
rights of the injured; I doubt it has much if anything to do with this
nonsense.
