http://www.postgazette.com/breaking/20010209simon3.asp Friday, February 09, 2001 By Byron Spice, Science Editor, Post-Gazette Herbert Simon, winner of the 1978 Nobel Prize in Economics and a pioneer in the fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive psychology, died this morning at UPMC Presbyterian. He was 84. Dr. Simon died of complications that developed following a surgical procedure in January. His fascination with human decision-making was the driving force in his career. His theory of "bounded rationality," for which he won the Nobel, was that people don't necessarily make the best, most rational choice of goods or services, but select the ones that seem good enough to meet their needs.
