http://www.cluebot.com/article.pl?sid=00/09/26/2052211&mode=thread Democrats Rally to Defeat Gambling Ban posted by cicero on Tuesday September 26, @03:33PM from the doing-the-right-thing-for-the-wrong-reasons dept. Democrats are rallying to defeat a Republican-backed ban on Internet gambling. Four top Dems wrote a letter yesterday (attached below) instructing their colleagues in the House not to go along with the GOP scheme: "[It] should not be brought to the floor." This could mean the end of the recently-rewritten Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, championed by Virginia's prudish Bob Goodlatte, who had hoped to bring it to the floor for a vote this week or next. The move originates in election-year politics, but the Democrats, including Minority Whip David Bonior, do correctly point out the bill is a rotgut idea.
