                     WASHINGTON -- Now that the world has
                     survived three days with no serious Y2K
                     woes, one might expect all the
                     doomsayers to give up in frustration or
                     shame. 

                     Nope. 

                     Rather than 'fessing up and admitting
                     they were ill-advised to hie to the hills,
                     some Y2K alarmists haven't given up what
                     passes for them as hope. 

                     On Usenet newsgroups and Web
                     discussion forums, the most vocal
                     apocalypticists are insisting that Year
                     2000-related computer snafus could still
                     bring an end to Western Civilization --
                     eventually.
