What does Unicornscan do that Nmap can't?
There's also the unique distributed manner on how it scans which is different from NMAP, it is faster than NMAP, and the code encapsulation in scans is not in NMAP. I'm also not sure if NMAP can whistle the 1812 Overture while scanning but there's that too then.
Overall, they are complementary. There are things that you will use NMAP for and things that you will need Unicornscan for like how you may need to use a ball pein hammer for some things and a claw hammer for others but for breaking things they're both hammers.
