Question about MSF web interface

The Metasploit user guide states the following. "The msfweb interface provides almost no security whatsoever; anyone who can connect to the msfweb service could potentially gain access to the underlying system... We do not recommend that the msfweb interface be used in production environments or exposed to untrusted networks." I'm being paranoid thus I require the confirmation of experts in this mailing list. Does the above warning apply to a Win XP SP2 machine that has Zonealarm firewall installed and running? How about msfweb within Pentoo running as a virtual machine?
