protocol war-dialing

hi,

i am looking for a war dialer, but not so much in the classical sense to (broadly) find machines behind phone numbers, 
but more important to (narrow) identify the service and protocol behind it: is it a typical MS-like ras, ppp, plain 
login etc..

any tools/suggestions?
