Has anyone ever looked into scripting/automating community or commercial security scanners? Are there utilities which anyone found helpful to support this? How effective and what aspects of automation have you been able to achieve, auto execution of regularly-scheduled scans, or creation and modification of new scans, targets, and outputs of reports? There has been an effort to create automation tools around OpenVAS. Take a look at Greenbone Security Assistant which provides a web GUI for OpenVAS and supports scheduled scans as well as managing hosts, groups and credentials. It will save scan reports in a number of formats including Nessus XML, HTML and PDF.
