Broke my embedded NIC, I used a recycled pci NIC. While trying to use nmap (ver. 6.47, both command line or Zenmap same version) with Winpcap ver. 4.1.3, the following output is displayed: Starting Nmap 6.47 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2015-05-21 09:56 ora legale Europa occidentale NSE: Loaded 118 scripts for scanning. NSE: Script Pre-scanning. Initiating ARP Ping Scan at 09:56 dnet: Failed to open device eth0 QUITTING! here's the ouput of nmap --iflist Starting Nmap 6.47 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2015-05-21 10:13 ora legale Europa occ identale ************************INTERFACES************************ DEV (SHORT) IP/MASK TYPE UP MTU MAC eth0 (eth0) x.x.x.2/n ethernet up 1500 omissis eth1 (eth1) x.x.x.39/n ethernet down 1500 omissis lo0 (lo0) ::1/128 loopback up -1 lo0 (lo0) 127.0.0.1/8 loopback up -1 tun0 (tun0) (none)/0 point2point down 1280 DEV WINDEVICE eth0 <none> eth1 \Device\NPF_{...snip...} lo0 <none> lo0 <none> tun0 <none> I suppose the first NIC when I installed nmap was eth0 with ip address ending with 39. Again, I think the new device got the new ip address (ending 2). Above, eth0 (old nic?) has the new ip address, but it's not listed under WINDEVICE column, while eth1 (new?) has the old ip and is listed under WINDEVICE column. No Preferences nor Settings in Zenmap menus to select NIC to use or update configuration. Thanks and....great tool Fyodor!!!
