Make sure you read these pages: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/org/home/google/gsoc2011/nmap http://nmap.org/soc/ http://nmap.org/soc/GeneralRequirements.html http://nmap.org/soc/apply.html How it works is, you will write a proposal describing your skills and what you plan to do. We will read the proposal, ask you questions about it, and perhaps help you improve it. If your proposal is among the best, we will assign you a mentor. Potential script developers should be familiar with http://nmap.org/book/nse.html. You might want to try implementing one of the ideas from https://secwiki.org/w/Nmap/Script_Ideas. (At least partially; most of those ideas will take more time than we would reasonably ask applicants to spend in their proposal.)
