Dear David, Sorry for being late in replying. I was very busy. I tried the packet trace option and it showed that the four probes are being used, but again I got the message that the host seems down! When I disabled the firewall and tried the same command, the scan was able to scan all the ports on the IP address and it seemed working fine. My firewall is BitDefender 2010. Do you have any clue of what is happening?
Maybe the firewall has a built-in rule to allow packets from ping.exe? That's my best guess. Maybe there's a way to add a rule for nmap.exe.
