Are there PJL commands to ask the printer about its status, like number
of pages printed or ink levels? I can see that being useful.
I
think there are although certain printers only understand certain of
the commands. I will look at my notes tomorrow when I get to work and
get back to you on this. 




Another thing I just thought of: What happens if you write these
commands to port 9100 to a printer that doesn't understand PJL? Will
they be printed out on paper?


I believe anything a printer doesn't understand as a command does end
up getting printed. I will run a test against a non-HP printer and see
what happens to confirm.
