Other way to do this is using dictionary: http://nvd.nist.gov/cpe.cfm
--> http://nvd.nist.gov/download/cpe-dictionary-v2.1-20080421.xml  and
"title" element.

For example:

    <cpe-item deprecated="true"
deprecation_date="2008-04-15T12:35:00.000-04:00"
name="cpe:/o:microsoft:windows-nt:xp:sp1:pro"
deprecated_by="cpe:/o:microsoft:windows_xp::sp1:professional">
        <title xml:lang="en-US">Microsoft Windows XP sp1 pro</title>
        <meta:item-metadata deprecated-by-nvd-id="58621"
modification-date="2008-04-15T19:57:30.823-04:00" status="FINAL"
nvd-id="74487" />
    </cpe-item>

Can you give us examples of applications that use CPE?

Yep, take a look over: http://nvd.nist.gov/scapproducts.cfm#scapproducts
"Laboratories Accredited to do SCAP Testing "
