or has Hewlett Packard made Broadcom-cards?
I believe HP and Broadcom partnered around 5 years ago to produce HP Compaq systems with Broadcom's gigabit ethernet (but HP and Broadcom have been partners in other ventures in previous decades too). Is the system from HP Compaq? If so, it's probably just Broadcom using HP's allocation as part of some kind of mutual agreement. I tend to treat the MAC as a guide (e.g. useful for spotting VMWare hosts), as it's usually quite easy to spoof.
