OK, thank you. The kernel version is detected by fingerprinting of the tcp/ip stack or by other means? On Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 5:18 PM, David Fifield <david () bamsoftware com>wrote:

It appears in the database?Yes, we have a lot of fingerprints like "Linux 2.6.17 - 2.6.25". In some cases 2.6.24 can be distinguished from earlier versions so we have other fingerprints like "Linux 2.6.24 - 2.6.25". So far there is only one print that covers 2.6.26. If you found a box against which Nmap gives the wrong version, like "Linux 2.6.17 - 2.6.23" and you know it's 2.6.24, please submit a correction to the OS database at http://insecure.org/cgi-bin/submit.cgi?corr-os David Fifield _______________________________________________ Sent through the nmap-dev mailing list http://cgi.insecure.org/mailman/listinfo/nmap-dev Archived at http://SecLists.Org
