Hi Rob.  That would be great!  You can start from Kris' 2008 branch,
because we are planning to move to that imminently.  If this is
required in order to run Nmap, I think it can be considered part of
"Nmap Core Files" and we don't need to ask the user whether to install
it.

I like your idea of doing unattended install if people call the Nmap
installer with /silent.
