Hi all,

Zenmap is due for a major facelift during this year's Summer of Code, and
the Search Window is currently number one on my TODO list. I've compiled
some of my ideas here, and it would be great if I could get some input from
you guys.

This topic has provoked a lot of good ideas. Vladimir is the right man
for the job. I want to be sure that whatever new search functionality is
added to Zenmap, it is filling an actual need.

What search needs do you have? Do you currently use custom scripts to
search through your saved Nmap scans, or does nobody really need to do
that? If people only need to do simple searches, then the search
function should be simple too. Or maybe you could do more if only you
had a more powerful search tool.

Write back with a description of what you need search to do, so that
Vladimir knows exactly what's needed. For example, I can't see myself
using "opt:!v". If a feature is cool but no one is going to use it, it
should get a lower development priority or be dropped altogether.

Here's my use case. Zenmap automatically saves every scan you run the
the recent scans database (~/.zenmap/zenmap.db). I would like to be able
to find just the scans I ran yesterday, or any day in the past week.
That's all. However many results are returned I'll sort through them by
hand, but it's almost always going to be less than a dozen.

Anyone else second this use case? What's yours?

David Fifield
