Nmap labeled ethernet address problem

Nmap seems to quit when it encounters labeled ethernet addresses on
Linux. I don't know if anyone actually uses that feature, but it
still would be nice to fix. There is an Ubuntu bug about it filed at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nmap/+bug/51975 . And here
are detailed reproduction instructions sent by LaMont Jones (Nmap
Debian maintainer):

With 2.6.24-16-generic (ubuntu/hardy), and nmap 4.60, I get the
following:

# ip addr add 1.1.1.1/32 dev eth0 label eth0vip
# ip addr list dev eth0
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
    link/ether 00:12:79:de:38:13 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.34.35.49/28 brd 192.34.35.63 scope global eth0
    inet 1.1.1.1/32 scope global eth0vip
    inet6 fe80::212:79ff:fede:3813/64 scope link
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
# nmap -sP -PI 192.34.35.1-5

Starting Nmap 4.60 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2008-04-17 17:33 MDT
Failed to determine the netmask of eth0vip!: No such device (19)

If anyone is intrested in fixing a small discrete bug like this,
please do! Otherwise, maybe one of the upcoming Google GSoC sponsored
students will do it. The winners are supposed to be announced by
Google on Monday at Noon PST! I can't spill the beans now, but let me
just say it is a VERY impressive list!

Cheers,
-F
