Yes, you're probably right.
2. Seeing as I already did the above "sudo make uninstall" to try to remove nmap; will "find /usr/local -name \*nmap\* -exec rm {}" delete the remnants of what "sudo make install" put on my system? (Don't worry, I'll reinstall nmap afterwards; but without zenmap this time...)
That will get everything except for some icons and pixmaps in /usr/local/share/icons and /usr/local/share/pixmaps. I looked at the %files section of zenmap.spec.in (the RPM package specification) to see the complete list of what gets installed.
