can nmap output information about closed ports or hosts that are down?

I currently use nmap and it's xml output to monitor several large networks for a client. I would like to keep track of not only open ports, but ports that nmap scanned and found down, or filtered, and hosts that are scanned, but reported as down. Is there something out there that already does this without my having to write parsing code for this? I've looked at pbnj, umit, etc - all great tools, but I don't see anything that records closed ports and/or down hosts. Or do I need to look t modifying nmap to do this?
