Hi all,

This is my first posting, though I have been following the list.

I have installed nmap 3.84ALPHA1 on my redhat box that has linux-2.6.10
kernel. Running nmap 3.84ALPHA1 (with the option -sA) against a system
on my LAN (from my redhat box) I get a different result as compared to
running nmap 3.81(with the option -sA) on a machine that has FreeBSD 5.3
(with i386 architecture) against the same system on my LAN.

On the Redhat box I get

 nmapp -sA X.X.X.T -P0

Nmap finished: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 42.899 seconds

on the FreeBSD box I get

Starting nmap 3.81 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2005-08-18 15:53
WAT
All 1663 scanned ports on X.X.X.T are: UNfiltered

Nmap finished: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.924 seconds
***************************************************

And something that also caught my attention is
1. The nmap 3.81 on the FreeBSD box was faster than that on the
Redhat box. The 3 machines are on the same segment.

2. I don't know if this is the right place, but I am surprised to find
the target machine, X.X.X.T, having filtered ports. Can I get any help
here, I am new to network security.

Thanks

Peter
