Patch - Nmap Dev

Hi,
   I am new to Nmap. Ihave just started by understanding the code of
nmap. I would find it useful and understandable, if I get started by
working upon some kind of patch work. 
I am really interested in contributing for the NMAP community. I would
like to get some advise from the fore-runners for NMAP about any
proposed patch work that can help me getting started.
